Edith Louisa Cavell

Edith Louisa Cavell (1865–1915) was a British nurse who became a celebrated martyr during World War I.

Born in England, she began her nursing career in 1895 at a London hospital and later became the first matron of the Berkendael Medical Institute in Brussels.

During the war, Cavell courageously helped British, French, and Belgian soldiers escape across the Dutch frontier. For this, she was arrested by the Germans, tried as a spy, and executed in 1915.

Her legacy endures as a symbol of compassion, duty, and sacrifice.💙
